Automatic Door Troubleshooting

Before calling for service, there are some basic steps you can take to troubleshoot your STANLEY door.

If you still can't get the door to work after trying these steps, don't hesitate to give us a call. If you feel that the door is unsafe (for example, if it's closing too fast), air on the side of caution—power down the door, take the door out of working order, and call a technician right away.

Dos & Don'ts

We encourage you to take only the actions recommended above. Any further maintenance should be completed only by a qualified door technician (one of our AAADM-certified personnel).

Here are some critical dos and don'ts to be aware of:

  • DON'T ever lubricate the door or the inside of the header cover. The doors don't require it and adding lubrication can actually ruin your door.
  • DO ensure the door is powered off if you decide to clean the tracks.
  • DON'T ever open up any plates or technology. Leave that to the pros!
  • DO remember that many doors are intended to break out in case of emergency—if your door breaks out, know that it's not broken; you can just pop it back into place.
  • DON'T attempt to operate the door if it's malfunctioning; if it's not working, cut off power and call a technician.
