A Very Special Visit

When his parents reached out to STANLEY Access Technologies about their son's love of automatic doors, we knew we had to create an extra-special day for him.

A Very Special Visit

It all started with our Contact Us form . . .

Usually, when someone fills out our "Contact Us" form it's because they want more information about our products. Or, perhaps, they need service assistance or are making another business-related inquiry. But a short time ago, we received a request on one of our forms unlike any other we have ever received:

Hi!

My son, who is seven and on the autism spectrum, LOVES automatic doors, specifically STANLEY doors. He seeks them out wherever we go and watches some of your repair videos. He actually went as an automatic door last Halloween. We'd like to encourage this special interest as he has said he would like to design automatic doors one day. I'm wondering if you have any information on career paths or how we can encourage him in engineering/design. Thanks so much!"

The Sarah who wrote to us lives near Minneapolis and this information was forwarded to our Burnsville Branch Manager, James Berndston, who became instantly enthusiastic. For James, this was more than just a fun way to connect with a local family.

I actually used to care for an autistic 12 year old boy when I was 16-18 years old, so this hit home for sure!"

James' enthusiasm was shared by everyone at STANLEY. Very quickly, the pieces started to fall into place to invite Ethan and his Mom and Dad to visit our facility and take a tour behind the scenes. Of course, we had no intention of letting Ethan go home without some souvenirs.

And no tour of our facility can begin without the proper PPE.

Once Ethan was geared up, it was time to see what STANLEY Access Technologies is all about. Service Technician Karl Bengston was given the honor of showing Ethan and his family around our facility, demonstrating how our technicians use our App as a part of their jobs, giving Ethan and up-close view of how an automatic door works, and helping Ethan understand just how much goes into manufacturing, installing, and servicing these complex products.

Ethan got to see the workings of our doors up close and personal and then it was time for a pizza lunch with the team. Everyone at STANLEY was excited to meet with this wonderful little guy and his amazing Mom and Dad. Watch the video below to see the fun for yourself!
